God Meets My Needs, But What About My Wants?

Ever struggled with the notion that God wants to bless us with our “wants” and not just our needs?

Most people will agree that God wants to meet your needs, (which He does!) but even those same people can often struggle with the thought that our Heavenly Father would also give us what we desire.

Why is that?

Why is it hard for us to believe that God, The Source, The Supplier, our Heavenly Father who loves us so dearly that He gave us His only son, would want to give us other good things, above and beyond the bare minimum?

He gave us Jesus, and that was FAR above the bare minimum!

Is He limited to only our needs, our necessities, and nothing more?

If God blesses me with something nice does that mean somewhere else a person goes bankrupt, or a kid goes hungry?

Is His treasury running so low to the point where He just barely has enough for us?

Well we all know the answer to that. (It’s no…the answer is no.)

All I want to do today is provide you with just a handful of scriptures that will prove that your Heavenly Father will not only meet your needs, but in fact He loves you so much that He wants to give you things you enjoy, things above and beyond the bare necessities, your wants, desires, and requests:

Let’s take a look:

Psalm 20:4May He grant you according to your heart’s desireAnd fulfill all your purpose.”

Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.”

1 John 15:14-15 “And this is the confidence (the assurance, the privilege of boldness) which we have in Him: [we are sure] that if we ask anything (make any request) according to His will (in agreement with His own plan), He listens to and hears us. 15 And if (since) we [positively] know that He listens to us in whatever we ask, we also know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted us as our present possessions] the requests made of Him.”

Philippians 4:6 “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.”

John 14:13 “And I will do [I Myself will grant] whatever you ask in My Name [a presenting all that I Am], so that the Father may be glorified and extolled in (through) the Son.”

Matthew 7:11 “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”

Mark 11:24 “For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it].”

John 16:23 And when that time comes, you will ask nothing of Me [you will need to ask Me no questions]. I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that My Father will grant you whatever you ask in My Name [as presenting all that I Am].”

1 Timothy 6:17 “As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be proud and arrogant and contemptuous of others, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches, but on God, Who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for [our] enjoyment.

Psalm 23:1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

(I added the bold words in the scriptures)

Think on those scriptures, look them up for yourselves, mark them in your Bible and let it be a reminder of just how much God loves you.

If you have kids yourself then you get it. You WANT and DESIRE to hook your kids up with great things, with good gifts, you want to give them their heart’s desires, because you love them! It BLESSES you, to bless them.

God loves you too, more than you’ll ever know.

Don’t be afraid to ask for big things, make bold prayers, give Him specific requests, tell Him your heart’s desires and He will grant them to you.

Take a minute today, go over these scriptures and act on them.

You’ll find you have much more available to you than you originally thought.

Over and over we see in His word that He gives us whatever we ask Him for, He’ll grant your specific requests, desires, and petitions. What have you been asking Him for?

If you ask Him for the bare needs and nothing more, He’ll give that to you.

If you ask for above and beyond, He’ll give that to you too.

There are no limits to His love or His supply.
