Do I need to Tithe off of a loan, or even a student loan?
Great question, glad you asked.
The scriptures instruct us to tithe off of all our increase, or our income, our gain.
While getting a loan seems like increase, it’s not really yours. It’s loaned to you, you have borrowed that lump of money. And in fact, it’s debt.
A Loan is literally defined as: “a thing that is borrowed, especially a sum of money that is expected to be paid back with interest.”
If you went and got a mortgage for a house, or loan for a car, you wouldn’t expect to tithe off of it.
So to answer the question: You do not need to tithe off of loans, but you do need to pay it back as quickly as possible. My suggestion is to give, sow, and bless as much as God leads you while you are in debt, it is one of the keys to getting out of debt as fast as possible.
