The Real Reason Your Money is Tight Right Now

I was walking by a group of women when I overheard one of them say, “Well as you know, we have four kids, so of course money is tight…”

When I heard that sentence, which seemed to mean nothing to anyone else, the Lord arrested me, He stopped me in my tracks and very clearly I heard in my spirit,

“Her having four kids has NOTHING to do with her money being tight. They are not related in any way.”

In our natural minds the woman’s statement is an easy one to agree with.

Sure, I get it. Just feeding four kids takes a lot, but then you have sports, vacations, after school activities, new clothes, they need the latest video games, they have summer camps, on and on…times four.

You love your kids, you want the best of the best for them.

Yes, there’s no denying that can add up.

But the Lord showed me here that her “financial hinderance” wasn’t her kids.

It was her expectancy.

She expected her money to be tight. Why? Because she has four kids.

But who told her that? Who taught her to think this way?

I began to think of several families I knew that were wealthy AND had lots of kids, I knew of two families who actually had ten kids each and they were very wealthy and successful.  I thought of their stories, they weren’t wealthy first and then decided to have lots of kids, no, just the opposite. They just had kids and over time their wealth grew.

I wondered what would happen if this lady flipped her mindset towards increase and abundance, rather than decrease and lack?

What if she looked at each kid and prayed, “Okay Lord, You’ve entrusted me with another one of Your children, I’m excited for this opportunity. I thank You for the financial increase to give Your child the best of the best, I thank You for increasing us to the next level and I know that You will provide for us so that Your perfect will is done in this child’s life.”

And then repeat that prayer of faith with each kid.

So instead of her money getting tighter with each kid, instead of decreasing and “tightening the belt” with each kid, she would increase financially as they had more children! Each child would cause her to level up!

As her family’s financial needs increase, so does God’s grace, provision, and supply!

When Jesus was born, what was the first thing God did? He sent three Kings to bring the parents gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Well what do you think Mary and Joseph did with that stuff? They spent it, that’s what!

God increased them financially when they had a child, could He do the same for you?

How come no one thinks like this?

This way of thinking is the complete opposite of what we’ve been taught our entire lives. We’ve been brought up to focus so much time and energy on our finances that we see them completely from a natural, worldly standpoint.

It’s so easy for us to go back to the worldly way of thinking that in order for us to make more money that we have to just work harder, or work more hours, or get another job.

We can quickly forget that God wants put His “super” into our natural. God wants to operate in all areas of your life, including your finances!

Let me back this up with a couple of scriptures, then I’ll show you how to apply them to your life:

Scripture: Psalm 115:14 “May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children.”

Application: Wow, so simple. “Yes Lord I receive Your increase, more and more, continually for me and my children! Lord I’ll have as many kids as You want me to have because I know You’ll increase me more and more.”

Scripture: Matthew 6:33 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

Application: Have a need? Seek God first, ask Him what He wants you to do, get His direction on your situation, go to Him FIRST and above all else, live right and He will give you everything you need. Even if you have 10 kids!

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:8 (AMP) And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].

Application: “God I thank You that right now you are making all grace, every favor, and every earthly blessing come to me in abundance. (More than I need) You see my circumstance, You see all our kids, You know their wants and needs, and I thank You that I possess enough to require no aid or support and I have an abundance beyond our own needs so that I can give to every good work and charitable donation.”

In other words, no matter what’s going on, no matter your current situation, God will make all you need AND MORE come to you, so that you can pay your bills and still have something left over to give to every good work.

“Ya but Trav, you don’t understand I…”

I’ll stop you right there, in that scripture above, God just promised to make earthly blessing come to you in abundance, so that NO MATTER YOUR CIRCUMSTANCE, whatever the need, you’ll be furnished in abundance.

Either you believe His word or you don’t. No excuses, no “ya buts.”

Excuses for financial lack that the “UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES” phrase in 2 Corinthians 9:8 eliminates:

  • Ya but, I don’t have a college degree
  • Ya but, I don’t come from a wealthy family
  • Ya but, there’s no jobs available in my town
  • Ya but, we only have one car
  • Ya but, my husband can’t work right now
  • Ya but, we have four kids
  • Ya but, I’m a student
  • Ya but, I’m paying for my kid’s college

UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES – you’ll be abundantly supplied.

SIDENOTE: Just get real with yourself, if you say “Ya but” then you don’t believe God’s word. Don’t go easy on yourself here.

Take a whole new approach to your financial situation

1. If your money is tight right now, don’t speak it. If you don’t like your current financial situation, then speak the desired outcome. Speak in faith how you want your money to be. This will change your expectancy. You’ll expect increase instead of lack. Speaking your current situation will keep you in a place of lack.

2. Make yourself lean towards increase. Instead of thinking, “I’m going to just have to learn to like Ramen noodles and Goodwill so I can afford to have four kids.” Go first to the scriptures. Declare Psalm 114 and 2 Corinthians 9:8 over your life, then ask God for wisdom on how to increase financially to cover the cost of four kids, and still have extra left over to give.

3. Remind yourself of God’s promise for increase DAILY.  I HAVE to do this myself. If I’m not speaking increase and listening to podcasts on increase daily, then I’m slipping backwards. We have to renew our minds to God’s way of thinking each and every day as it says in Romans 12:2.

We also know that faith comes by hearING the word of God. (Romans 10:17) Hearing means repeatedly, over and over. We have to stay up on this, don’t let your tank go empty, listen to Faith building words constantly.

Change your expectancy, get new results.

Make the world look at your family and say, “How are you doing this? How can you afford this?”

Then you just go ahead and let them know about Jesus.

Sound good? I thought so.
